Mount Honaz National Park

PLACES TO VISIT

The national park area, which was declared a national park in 1995 and located in the southeast of Denizli province, borders with Honaz district, Karateke, Menteşe Village in the north and Cankurtaran settlements in the west. Honaz Mountain is the highest mountain of Denizli and also the Aegean Region with its 2528 m height and is located at the western end of the Taurus Mountains. Its northern slopes extend to the left branch of the Büyük Menderes River, and its southern slopes to the Dalaman Stream basin, which is the source of Acıpayam Plain.

Geomorphological importance of the region comes first among the resource values of the national park. Honaz Mountain is one of the few places in the Aegean Region where Periglacial environmental conditions prevail. For this reason, there are geomorphological shapes that characterize many Periglacial conditions on the mountain. As the main shape group, the region extends in horst form. As a result of tectonic and icing, it gained a very steep appearance.

Mount Honaz National Park and its surroundings have been identified as 964 plant species, 122 of which are endemic to Turkey. In the world, only 3 plant species (ballıbaba, mullein, saffron) growing on Mount Honaz have been identified. Mountain goats are especially abundant in Mount Honaz National Park, which is rich in wildlife. There are also wild boar, rabbit, fox, badger. It is also possible to come across a very venomous snake species, locally known as the Mountain Mother, in Mount Honaz National Park.
